കൊച്ചിൻ ഫിലിം സൊസൈറ്റിയുടെ പ്രതിമാസ പ്രദർശന പരിപാടികളുടെ ഭാഗമായി ഒക്ടോബർ ഇരുപത്തിമൂന്നാം തീയതി (23.10.2014) വ്യാഴാഴ്ച 5 മണിയ്ക്ക് നാടകാചാര്യനായ ശ്രീ. കാവാലം നാരായണപ്പണിയ്ക്കരെ ആദരിയ്ക്കുന്നു.

 എറണാകുളം ചിൽഡ്രൻസ് പാർക്കിൽ വെച്ച് നടക്കുന്ന ചടങ്ങിൽ ബഹുമാനപ്പെട്ട കൊച്ചി മേയർ ശ്രീ. ടോണി ചമ്മണി കാവാലത്തിനെ പൊന്നാട അണിയിച്ചു ആദരിയ്ക്കുന്നു. യോഗത്തിൽ പ്രൊഫ. ചന്ദ്രദാസൻ, പ്രശസ്ത ചിത്രകാരൻ ശ്രീ. കലാധരൻ,  ശിവമോഹൻ തമ്പി, എന്നിവർ  സംസാരിയ്ക്കുന്നു. ചടങ്ങിനുശേഷം കാവാലത്തിന്റെ നാടക സങ്കൽപ്പങ്ങളെ അന്വേഷിയ്ക്കുന്ന Spatial Rhythm എന്ന ഡോക്യുമെന്ററിയുടെ പ്രദർശനം  ഉണ്ടായിരിയ്ക്കുന്നതാണ്.

റോയ് പി. ആന്റണി നിർമ്മിച്ച്‌ ശിവ മോഹൻ തമ്പി സംവിധാനം ചെയ്ത  45 മിനിറ്റുള്ള ഈ ഇംഗ്ലീഷ് ചിത്രം, അവനവൻ കടമ്പ, തെയ്യ തെയ്യം, കർണ്ണഭാരം തുടങ്ങിയ നാടകങ്ങളെ മുൻനിർത്തി എങ്ങനെയാണ് സ്ഥലവും കാലവും, താളവുമായി കൂടി ചേർന്ന് കാവാലത്തിന്റെ നാടകങ്ങളിൽ ഒരു പുതിയ സൌന്ദര്യശാസ്ത്രം സൃഷ്ടിയ്ക്കുന്നതെന്ന് അന്വേഷിയ്ക്കുന്നു. കാവാലത്തിന്റെ നാടകങ്ങളിലെ ഊർജ്ജം പ്രധാനമായും അതിലെ താളങ്ങളിൽ നിന്നും ഉണ്ടായി വരുന്നതാണ്. വേദിയിലെ നാടകീയമായ അവതരണം നമുക്ക് പരിചയമുള്ള, നമ്മുടെ ചുറ്റുമുള്ള താളങ്ങളുമായി ഇഴ കലർന്ന് കിടക്കുന്നു. അങ്ങനെ നാടകം ജീവിതം തന്നെയായി മാറുന്നു. പ്രകൃതിയും മനുഷ്യനും ഇഴ പിരിയാതെ ഒന്നായി ജീവിയ്ക്കുന്ന കുട്ടനാടൻ ജീവിത പരിസരങ്ങളിൽ നിന്നും ഉയിർ കൊണ്ടു വരുന്ന ജൈവീകമായ ഈ താളം കാവാലത്തിന്റെ നാടക കലയിൽ അതിപ്രധാനമായ ഒന്നായി മാറുന്നു. സംഗീതവും, ഭാഷയും, താളങ്ങളും, അഭിനേതാക്കളുടെ ശാരീരിക ചലനങ്ങളും ഇടകലർന്ന് വരുന്ന രംഗാവതരണരീതിയിലൂടെ ഇന്ത്യൻ നാട്യശാസ്ത്ര പാരമ്പര്യത്തിന് തന്റേതായ സംഭാവന നല്കുകയാണ് കാവാലം ചെയ്തത്.

പരിപാടിയിലേയ്ക്കുള്ള പ്രവേശനം സൌജന്യമാണ് .

കൊചിൻ ഫിലിം സൊസൈറ്റിയിൽ അംഗത്വം എടുക്കുവാനുള്ള സൗകര്യം തിയറ്ററിൽ ഉണ്ടായിരിയ്ക്കുന്നതാണ്. 

 

 

About Spatial Rhythm

 

Art can be generally defined as space and time interpretation. The basic quality of theatre is to combine time and space with action. From this emerges the theatre language.

The powerful practice of this basic tenet makes the theatre of Kavalam unique. It is only a natural development of this aspect that provides the theatre culture of Kavalam a significant space in world theatre.

 

This documentary depicts the functional use of space and time and the aesthetics of merging space and time with rhythm. The vital energy of Kavalam’s plays is derived from rhythm. Dramatic action is equated with rhythm.  This carries the audience into more than life level.  Kavalam’s theatre,  by conviction and application, is quintessentially Indian. The treatment of virtual space and time owes its stimulus to the life force of his native origin, which unveils its casual significance of rhythm as the fundamental component of his artistic signature. His village, set in a panoramic lake environment predominantly engaged in agricultural activities, provided him with a conductive background for a rightful inheritance of the culture. The presence of rhythm althrough the process of cultivation ignited the dramatic flavour in him. His basic approach to the art of theatre was rooted in such an organic interaction between nature and the human beings which subsequently attained empirical acceptance in the established Indian theories of art. His theatre attained its essential expression in the Natyashastric tradition in its margi and desi ramifications. The uniquely indigenous concepts of rasa and dhwani have been employed in interpreting the works of the great masters like Mahakavi Bhasa and Kalidas appealing to the contemporary sensibility. Similarly, contemporary plays have been written in Malayalam and their sub-texts transferred into the lokadharmi and natyadharmi dimensions of stage representations.
